Working in collaboration with the North Isles landscape Parnership and artist Saoirse Higgins, I am devising and directing a series of skill sharing workshops across the Northern Isles. On Papay we have been working with the local community to build a new section of Caasie coastal defense wall, to prevent further erosion at a vulnerable site along the coast of the island. Using traditional building skills and creating situations where vital skills can be learned and passed on.
Science and art meet on an island….
Collaborating with artist Saoirse Higgins I have co-directed and delivered annual projects with the British Science Association and the Orkney Science Festival. These include shoreline surveys, Glacier monitoring on Iceland, Weather watching and recording and monitoring of migrating seabirds.
Bringing the creativity of an artist to the methods of a scientist, with a hint of nostalgia for an analogue past.
